One month ago Shandoz made a winning return at Ascot after nearly a year off the track and he justified favouritism to follow up that victory with an even more impressive display in the valuable Lavazza Handicap, a race the stable won last year with Apparate.
From his wide draw in stall 10 David Egan settled Shandoz towards the rear of the field and the pace was a strong one, setting it up for a perfectly timed late charge in the straight. Having ridden him in all of his races David clearly had a lot of faith in the horse and his patience paid off to provide a comfortable ¾l victory, with the next horse a further 4l back in third.
