"We were delighted to purchase this good-looking son of Phoenix Of Spain, he boasts an excellent pedigree and Phoenix Of Spain is a very exciting first season sire. This colt looks like a strong, tough, hardy individual with a great temperament. I can't wait to see how he develops" - Roger Varian
This colt is from the first crop of G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Phoenix Of Spain, himself a son of World Leading Sire Lope de Vega. Phoenix Of Spain was a high-class two-year-old, winning the G3 Acomb Stakes (7f), and then runner-up to Too Darn Hot in the G2 Champagne Stales (7f) and Magna Grecia in the G1 Vertem Futurity Trophy (1m). He beat both these rivals on seasonal reappearance, with a 3L victory in the G1 Irish 2,000 Guineas.
Phoenix of Spain popular with breeders, covering over 250 mares in his first two books, and his first yearlings realised up to €200,000 at the sales.
This colt was purchased at Tattersalls October Yearling Sales, Book 2 for 70,000gns. He is a grandson of G1 winner and Stakes producer Pearly Shells, out of the unraced Holy Roman Emperor mare Pearly Empress, who has already produced two winners from two runners.
